USDT TRC20 vs ERC20
USDT (Tether) uses one ticker on several blockchains. Two formats users meet most often on Exswaping are USDT TRC20 (TRON) and USDT ERC20 (Ethereum). This page compares them without promising a forever “best network”: fees, confirmation behavior, wallets, and typical exchange mistakes.
For a three-network overview including BEP20, read USDT networks. For TRON-only order flow, see the USDT TRC20 exchange guide. For card payouts, see USDT to bank card. Live rates and limits are always in the calculator at order time — Exswaping does not guarantee a fixed rate or instant credit.
Already know your network? Open the Exswaping calculator, choose USDT TRC20 or USDT ERC20 in “You send,” pick a receive direction, and follow the instructions.
What USDT is
USDT is a stablecoin oriented to the US dollar. Issuers deploy tokens on multiple networks; users see one ticker, but these are different assets on different chains with different addresses and transfer rules.
Exswaping is not the issuer of USDT. When you exchange, you send the network named in the order form. ERC20 cannot be credited as TRC20 by ticker name alone.
What TRC20 is
TRC20 is a token standard on TRON. USDT TRC20 addresses often start with “T”. Fees are paid in TRX or via wallet resources (bandwidth/energy), depending on the app.
Choose TRC20 when your balance already sits on TRON or when the calculator lists the pair you need under USDT TRC20. Full TRON workflow: USDT TRC20 exchange.
What ERC20 is
ERC20 is the common token standard on Ethereum. USDT ERC20 uses 0x… addresses and gas in ETH.
Many older balances remain on Ethereum. If that is where your USDT is, an ERC20 pair is usually simpler than bridging to TRON without counting total cost and risk.
Key differences
| Parameter | USDT TRC20 | USDT ERC20 |
|---|---|---|
| Blockchain | TRON | Ethereum |
| Standard | TRC20 | ERC20 |
| Typical address shape | Often starts with T | 0x… |
| Network fee asset | TRX / TRON resources | ETH gas |
| Fee behavior | Often lower in calm periods | Can spike with congestion |
| Interchangeable? | No — wrong network ≠ credit | |
BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain) is a third common rail with 0x-style addresses — covered in USDT networks. Do not treat BEP20 as ERC20.
Fees and confirmations
Send fee: paid by your wallet when broadcasting. Exswaping does not set TRON or Ethereum gas prices.
Service pricing: included in the calculator’s receive amount for the selected pair.
Confirmations: each pair defines how many confirmations are required before deposit status advances. Exact expectations appear on the pair page and in the order — they can change with risk settings.
Faster on-chain visibility does not mean an instant fiat payout. Card and bank legs still follow payout processing after the crypto deposit is accepted.
When to choose TRC20
- Your USDT already sits on TRON.
- The receive direction you need is listed for USDT TRC20.
- You want to avoid high Ethereum gas for the send step (when TRC20 fees are favorable today).
Example when listed: USDT TRC20 → Sber — always re-check the calculator before sending.
When to choose ERC20
- Your USDT already sits on Ethereum.
- A counterparty or exchange account only accepts ERC20.
- Bridging to TRON would add cost or risk that outweighs any fee savings.
Example when listed: USDT ERC20 → Sber.
Wallet compatibility
TRC20 needs a TRON-capable wallet; ERC20 needs an Ethereum-capable wallet. Hardware and mobile apps often support both — but you must select the correct network on the send screen every time.
Exchange withdrawals require an explicit network choice. Internal exchange transfers are not blockchain deposits to Exswaping.
Common mistakes
- Sending TRC20 to an ERC20 deposit address (or the reverse).
- Pasting a 0x address into a TRC20 order because “USDT looks the same.”
- Using a BEP20 withdrawal for an ERC20 order because both use 0x addresses.
- Relying on a monitor listing that shows “USDT” without a network label.
- Creating a second send before support reviews a stuck deposit.

FAQ
Are TRC20 and ERC20 the same USDT?
Same issuer brand and similar peg intent — different blockchains. They are not interchangeable for deposits.
Which is cheaper?
Often TRC20 for the network send fee, but not always, and not for every scenario. Compare today’s wallet fee plus the calculator quote.
Which is faster?
TRON deposits are often visible sooner on-chain; order completion still depends on confirmations and payout processing.
Can Exswaping convert networks for me?
Not automatically inside a single deposit. Select the network that matches your wallet balance, or exchange through a pair that lists that network.
Where do I get help after a wrong-network send?
Official contacts with order ID and TXID — before sending again.
